About the Program

What is GovRAMP?

StateRAMP dba GovRAMP is a registered 501(c)(6) nonprofit membership organization comprised of service providers offering IaaS, PaaS, and/or SaaS solutions, third party assessment organizations, and government officials. Our members lead, manage, and work in various disciplines across the United States and are all committed to making the digital landscape a safer, more secure place. GovRAMP was born from the clear need for a standardized approach to the cybersecurity standards required from service providers offering solutions to state and local governments. GovRAMP (State Risk and Authorization Management Program) has developed a roadmap for vendors to follow to demonstrate through an externally verifiable process that they are meeting national cybersecurity standards.

Why GovRAMP?

In the City of Chandler, safeguarding sensitive and critical information is a collective responsibility. Cybersecurity teams are constantly on alert, defending against ever-evolving threats. To effectively counter these threats, organizations must take proactive measures to reinforce their networks and systems. One crucial step is ensuring that any provider or product dealing with critical data adheres to stringent cybersecurity standards

This is where GovRAMP steps in. By collaborating with the City of Chandler, GovRAMP supports providers in meeting essential security controls as specified by the NIST 800-53 framework. This partnership not only ensures that providers comply with these rigorous standards but also offers the benefit of transferable credentials through a standardized cybersecurity verification process. This means that once providers achieve verification, they can leverage this status to serve multiple government entities efficiently. This system of product cybersecurity validation is available to all participating government members, fostering a more secure and streamlined approach to managing cybersecurity across various jurisdictions.

GovRAMP enables service providers to attain a security status at various levels through a sequence of steps that are streamlined and can translate across participating states and local jurisdictions in order to reduce redundancy and improve efficiency.

The various assessment levels of GovRAMP validation include GovRAMP Core, GovRAMP Ready and GovRAMP Authorized with the Security Snapshot and Progressing Snapshot program serving as entry points to the program.

 GovRAMP Requirements

Contractors who will be storing, processing, and/or transmitting City data in external, non-City environments (Cloud), are required to complete one of the following GovRAMP programs as determined by City of Chandler Cybersecurity staff:

GovRAMP Progressing Security Snapshot Program. Products that are not yet GovRAMP Core, GovRAMP Ready, or GovRAMP Authorized must maintain a valid GovRAMP Security Snapshot and enroll in the GovRAMP Progressing Security Snapshot Program until GovRAMP Core or Ready status is obtained. GovRAMP Core or Ready status must be obtained not later than 12 months after execution of this contract. Subsequent Security Snapshots should reflect progress toward increased security controls and StateRAMP status. The city must be granted visibility and access through GovRAMP for progress reviews as requested.

GovRAMP Core. Products that meet the lower threshold requiring GovRAMP Core (as determined by the City of Chandler Cybersecurity staff) must maintain GovRAMP Core status for the duration of the contract. The city must be granted visibility and access through GovRAMP for continuous monitoring as requested.

GovRAMP Ready. Products with GovRAMP Ready status must maintain GovRAMP Ready status until GovRAMP Authorization status is achieved. GovRAMP Authorization status must be achieved not later than 18 months after execution of this contract. The city must be granted visibility and access through GovRAMP for continuous monitoring as requested.

GovRAMP Authorized. Products with GovRAMP Authorized status must maintain GovRAMP Authorized status for the duration of the contract. The city must be granted visibility and access through GovRAMP for continuous monitoring as requested.
